Dani Martineck (they/them) is a New York-based non-binary actor and playwright. Recent work includes Blue Bloods on CBS, the title role in Gideon Productions' play Almelem in NYC, and Spicy Witch Productions' repertory season of world premiere play Merrily, Merrily and a new translation of Life Is But a Dream. Dani is currently writing their second commissioned play with Urban Stages Outreach and co-writing a musical episode of the podcast Girl Tales.
Dani has also spent much of their professional life as a scientist, managing a behavioral cognitive neuroscience lab for five years and currently serving as a project-based consultant. While science is no longer a career focus for Dani, the habits of accountability and thoughtful experimentation they cultivated while pursuing science continue to inform the way they interact with the world and approach projects.
Through both modes of storytelling—their acting and their writing—Dani seeks moments of connection that bridge experiential differences and create radical empathy. These are moments we all remember from works of art that influenced us from the beginning, that use familiar structures to reach out with one or two little tendrils of emotional resonance, one or two little "oh" moments that burrow in our minds and subtly change thought patterns. Dani looks forward to many more years of sneaky art empathy.
